We’re proud of our work with Australian Indigenous Business Services, where we partner to develop and train testers. Most recently, the collaboration has led to the setup of an annex lab at the Bulleen Concrete Plant. Since its start in late January this year, the lab has sampled more than 14,000 cylinders and AIBS has 8 full time testers on site, and a trainee. The collaboration means we can service the massive North East Link project without any disruption to our other customers and projects. Last week we celebrated the collaboration at the plant. Local Wurundjeri Aboriginal Community Elders conducted a smoking ceremony and didgeridoo performance during the celebration, that was also attended by Wiradjuri Aboriginal Elders. AIBS General Manager Alan Eldridge thanked us for our support and the opportunities that come from the partnership to improve the prospects of Aboriginal people. It’s not every day you can claim to have a pair of life savers in your ranks. As part of their work for Boral in the Northern Territory, colleagues Pita and Dianne were about 180km from Alice Springs when they came across a woman who lay unresponsive on the side of the road. With safety front of mind, and guided by our Life Saving rules, their response was caring, calm and swift. They quickly secured the area and after determining there was no pulse, initiated CPR as instructed by emergency services over a satellite phone. For more than an hour on that hot August morning, Pita and Dianne demonstrated our STAAR values of safety and teamwork. NT emergency services praised the duo’s quick response, saying that their actions likely saved the woman’s life that day. The pair’s work was recognised recently by the Northern Territory Government, and as National Safety Month in Australia draws to a close this week, it’s only appropriate we also say thanks, celebrate and recognise Pita and Dianne. We were stoked to host delegates from the annual Institute of Quarrying Australia national conference at our Stonyfell Quarry in Adelaide last week. The oldest regulated quarry (PM1) in South Australia, Stonyfell Quarry was first regulated in 1837 and has provided much of the building materials used to build the city of Adelaide, its roads and railways over the past 180 years. Stonyfell continues to enable Adelaide’s growth into the future. ENVISIA® enabled us to meet the high one-day strength constructability requirements and achieve improved sustainability performance with significantly lower embodied carbon concrete. Our high-strength concrete Aspire® was used to assist with minimising the axial shortening of the new building, connected to the existing building structure. We were stoked to be involved as a supplier in Multiplex’s construction of Quay Quarter Tower, designed by Danish architects 3XN/GXN in consultation with Australian architectural firm BVN Architecture, for AMP Capital.
