BTP Apprentice Aiden Fry recently competed in the WorldSkills Australia regional competition in Midland. The WorldSkills Australia competition was a great opportunity for Aiden to test his abilities against his peers in the industry and show off the skills he has developed during his apprenticeship at BTP. Aiden took part in the Fitting and Machining competition, which involved reading and interpreting drawings, measurements and calculations in order to manufacture a range of components. This was a timed event, designed to showcase each competitor's techniques and skills. Aiden's skills were noticed on the day, and he was commended for the quality of the work completed in the time frame allowed. The results of the competition will not be released until mid-November, so Aiden will have to wait a little longer to find out whether he gets through to the next stage. Best of luck Aiden, we are crossing our fingers for you and are impressed by your efforts so far!

The World Title Woodchopping event returned to the Perth Royal Show last week, drawing crowds of keen spectators. BTP was once again proud to be the major sponsor of the competition, enabling the 2024 World Title event to go ahead in 2024. Woodchopping is a time-honoured tradition at the Perth Royal Show, bringing the community together for an impressive display of skill and agility. This year, the winning axemen sliced through the hardwood logs in only 21 seconds. First and second place were so close that a photo finish was required to decide the winner! Congratulations to Gerald Youles, who narrowly defeated Jake Dingle to be crowned World Champion for 2024. “Thank you to BTP for making it possible,” said Gerald Youles. “Some of us have been training our whole lives to be able to compete and it was an honour to be part of this event, surrounded by the best competitors in the world.” The MC for the event was Brendon Tuckett , WA Operations Manager at BTP. Brendon is an accomplished woodchopper and competed in a number of events at this year’s Royal Show, winning several podium finishes. Take a look at the pictures below to see Brendon in action! At BTP, we believe that mental health is a priority, and we encourage our team to check in with each other and be aware of any signs that a mate might need support. Our Hazelmere team have been taking part in MATES in Mining training to promote mental wellbeing and suicide prevention in the workplace. The training not only raises awareness of the importance of talking to a friend or colleague, it also provides ideas and support strategies to help someone in need. The fabulous group of volunteers pictured below have also completed an additional two-day interactive workshop to provide further training in suicide first aid intervention. Rising from the ashes, the BTP team has done an excellent job rebuilding this 793F to as new condition following extensive fire damage, delivering value for our client and giving this machine a new lease on life. Our team worked diligently to assess the damage, stripping the machine down to bare chassis where it was surveyed, metallurgically tested and repaired to meet OEM specifications. All minor valves, tanks and accumulators were overhauled or replaced, and major powertrain components and hydraulic cylinders were rebuilt and performance tested during pre-delivery commissioning. This build included upgrading the machine to be Autonomous ready, as well as overhauling the Cab, replacing all hoses and harnesses to suit and ensuring that site specifications were installed to comply with our client's requirements. Congratulations to our BTP rebuild team for their fantastic work on this CAT 793F Dump Truck.

BTP was proud to sponsor the 'Island Drive" at the recent charity golf event in Mackay. BTP brought their A-Game for the M&P Services - Key Solutions Group Charity Golf Day 2024, which raised $61,200 for local charities. BTP’s Derek Ellis and Graeme Sanderson , were joined by Chris Dingle and Ashley Sauer to participate in this event. The day was a big hit, with a record number of attendees raising much-needed funds for local charities including Ronald McDonald House Charities, Mackay Surf Lifesaving Club, Australian Street Aid Project and the Mackay Hospital Foundation. Well done to everyone that participated, it was fantastic to be part of an event giving back to the Mackay community!

Last week our employees took part in the first ever BTP Olympics! This event was an excellent opportunity to get the BTP team together to take part in some fun and games, ranging from the PPE Relay to an Eiffel Tower Stack. The Hydraulics and Engineering Team took home the gold in WA, and the Components Rebuild Team were victorious in NSW. Thank you to all of our employees for getting involved with such spirit and enthusiasm!
