On this occasion a Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) exercise was necessary and collaborative solutions turned a potential disaster into a success story, reducing downtime from 16 weeks to 72 hours. At CPM, we don’t just fix damaged gearboxes—we solve problems to minimise disruption to your production. One such example of this happened recently, a fast food production client faced repeated gearbox failures, leading to costly and lengthy downtime. In these instances, our engineers, trained in ‘Root Cause Failure Analysis’ (RCFA) techniques, investigated the failures and applications and concluded that an ageing conveyor line was putting excessive additional load and alignment issues on the gearbox. The long-term solution resulting from the RCFA was to overhaul the conveyor line, but, due to the customer’s budget and time constraints, that was not feasible. Our solution? A custom safety coupling that disengaged the gearbox during conveyor issues, allowing the line to re-start in minutes rather than days. This proactive approach saved the client time and money. Moreover, it allowed them to plan to undertake the required conveyor overhaul in a timeframe that would suit production demand and budget constraints. When you send your pump to us for repair, you can rest assured it will be returned to your site working exactly as you expect, or better. This is only possible due to our thorough testing regime which involves simulating your on-site conditions to ensure that the pump operates as efficiently as it should in accordance to the OEM standard. Replicating your on-site conditions includes running the pump at specific speeds coupled with the right powered motor, as well as taking into account the pipework. ⏩ Step 1 - When your pump arrives at our specialist testing facility it is photographed and tested (if possible) so we get an accurate picture of its current condition and performance. ⏩ Step 2 - We then dismantle the pump to inspect individual components in order to assess the level of degradation and liaise with you to determine the best course of action - repair, modify, replace etc. ⏩ Step 3 - On completion of the agreed work scope, we undertake further testing so when the pump is returned to you there is no doubt it will work as it should, minimising any further disruption to your operations. The whole process is designed to be fast and efficient - we are well aware that any disruption to your site can be costly. #rotatingequipment #engineering #pumps #repairs #reliability
