FIVE FEDERAL BUDGET TAKEAWAYS Electrical Bill Relief Each household will receive a $300 rebate on their energy bill. The relief will be automatically applied and spread over each quarter. Student Loans HECS debt indexation will be now capped at the lower of inflation or wages, as measured by the consumer price index and the wage price index. As a result, three million graduates will have their student loans reduced on average of $1,200. Tax Cuts All Australian taxpayers will receive a tax cut in the next financial year. Under the previously announced (and then amended) stage three tax cuts, high income earners will receive a $4,529 tax deduction while a worker with an $100,000 annual income will be $2,179 better off. Aged Pension The deeming rate used to determine age pension eligibility and payments will be freezed at 2.25% for one more year. Typically the deeming rate moves in line with the RBA's cash rate. Small Business Asset Write-Off The instant asset write-off scheme will be extended for another year. Small businesses (turnover <$10 million) can continue to instantly deduct the cost of eligible assets up to $20,000.
