The more than 100 engineers at the site have developed upwards of 300 design changes to the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet during their life. Navantia UK and the Fleet Solid Support Ships program for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary has successfully completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR), marking the project’s first major milestone. The PDR has been completed in working sessions between the Ministry of Defence (MOD), prime contractor Navantia UK, and BMT who has led the functional design phase. This milestone has confirmed the robustness and maturity of the vessel’s design and marks the progression of the program into the next phase. The FSS program will now focus on a detailed design and looks as if construction will begin in 2025. The completion of the PDR has been possible thanks to close collaboration between Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), Navantia UK, and British designer BMT. As prime contractor, Navantia UK has overseen the design phase, contributing its program management expertise in order to ensure the seamless integration of project elements such as scheduling, procurement, and production engineering. #defenceindustry #navalshipbuilding

The University of Tasmania ’s Australian Maritime College (AMC) will soon be home to a new Naval Research Centre in Launceston, consolidating Tasmania’s position at the forefront of maritime research and innovation. We are proud to announce that Dylan Barnett , Navantia Australia Naval Architect, was announced as the winner of the Australian Industry & Defence Network Victoria (AIDN VIC) 2024 Young Achiever of the Year Award. Dylan’s win was announced at the AIDN VIC Gala Dinner in Melbourne on 3 October 2024. Dylan joined the Navantia Australia Melbourne Engineering team in January of 2020, and since that time has become an integral part of the Navantia Australia family. This award recognises Dylan’s appointment as the Engineering Lead for the Platform Integration aspect of the Rapid Integration of the Naval Strike Missile Weapon System on the Hobart Class Destroyers.
