We’ve just returned from an amazing week at SXSW Sydney 2024, where we proudly showcased our latest original production, Time After Time – RONE, to thousands of attendees. We also walked away with the award for Best XR Project! Here are a few of our other highlights; 1️⃣ Experiencing the incredible talent and innovation at the XR showcase and across the tech and innovation floor. Surprises were everywhere, and it’s exciting to see the future of the industry unfold. 2️⃣ Watching people light up as they immersed themselves in our experience, finishing with big smiles after removing the headset. Time After Time is going to SXSW Sydney! We're so excited to be presenting our newest Mixed Reality production at the festival's XR showcase. Since 2016, PHORIA has been digitally preserving the work of renowned Melbourne street artist RONE, starting with his debut solo show, Empty. Our collaboration has evolved through projects like Antecedent—an AR activation that brought a new dimension to RONE’s sold-out Empire exhibition—and now culminates in this groundbreaking experience. By blending the physical and digital worlds, Time After Time reimagines RONE’s award-winning Time exhibition, held at Flinders Street Station between October 2022 and April 2023. By enabling audiences to experience RONE's work long after the original exhibition has ended, this project signals the future of how we can experience art. On Tuesday we had the pleasure of hosting a Lunch & Learn session with Steven Kounnas from PHORIA and Sam Granleese from JigSpace , where they shared what they've been working on in #XR and #AR . Phoria is in immersive tech studio working to transform human experiences and augment intelligent environments with Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality (VR/AR/MR/XR) technology. Next recently had the opportunity to work with Phoria on our Digital Twin project. JigSpace makes 3D knowledge and content accessible through interactive augmented reality platforms, changing the way we create, learn, and visualise complex systems. Here are the key highlights from the session: Innovative XR/AR Tech: Phoria and JigSpace showcased digital tools that are set to redefine what's possible in approaching industry problems, particularly within the plumbing and trades industries. Empowering the Future Tradie: From hands-on training tools to virtual environments, the future tradie will be equipped with immersive learning experiences that will uplift skills, safety, and efficiency on the job. Highlights from day 1 of Meta Connect 2024! Day 1 at Meta Connect 2024 brought some big and exciting announcements. Here are our top highlights: ⚪ Quest 3S headset: With its affordability and advanced mixed reality capabilities, the 3S marks a shift in the market, making high-quality immersive media accessible to a broader global audience. ⚪ Orion AR glasses: Positioned as a way to integrate augmented reality into our daily lives, the glasses look to achieve Meta's north star of 'a product combining the convenience and immediacy of wearables with a large display, high-bandwidth input and contextualised AI in a form that people feel comfortable wearing in their daily lives.' ⚪ AI advancements – Llama 3.2: With multimodal capabilities, Llama 3.2 brings enhanced generative AI models to mobile devices. These advancements will help build more interactive and immersive experiences by integrating both vision and language in real-time. ⚪ “Be My Eyes” feature: Meta’s partnership with “Be My Eyes” introduced real-time AI support for visually impaired individuals, underscoring the importance of inclusivity in tech development. We’re particularly excited about the Quest 3S here. This more affordable headset is a pivotal step toward bringing immersive experiences to a much wider audience. With this shift, we can see a future where virtual and mixed reality is no longer niche but part of everyday life, from entertainment and storytelling to tourism and beyond. For us, this also has exciting implications as we start to see our productions like Julaymba make an impact in the education space. The democratisation of immersive tech through devices like the Quest 3S means that immersive learning will be accessible to more schools and institutions, allowing students to engage with culture and history in powerful, hands-on ways. While affordability opens the door to mass adoption, the integration of AI tools like Llama 3.2, and Meta's new translation tools will help extend the reach of these experiences, making them accessible in multiple languages and allowing even deeper engagement with global audiences. Titled 'Symbiosis: Hidden Ecosystems', this interactive four-minute proof of concept takes you into the intricate world of a coral reef, using cutting-edge spatial video and real-time AI interactions to showcase the complex relationships that sustain marine life.
