Techboard is the number one source for up-to-date data on Australian startups and young tech companies.  

At its core is the Techboard Directory of Australian startups and young tech companies with claimable profiles of over 2800 companies and growing monthly. Company who claim their profile are free to use Techboard's Company announcements platform.

Techboard actively tracks these companies providing more than 25,000 individual data points including data on funding. The metrics collected provide strong indicators of activity and growth. Using this information, Techboard has been producing a variety of data products on the startup ecosystem including the Techboard Ranking, the Month in Aussie Startup and Tech, and Australia’s most comprehensive funding reports. On the back of the ever growing data resource, Techboard has an unsurpassed ability to produce specialised reports for internal or external use, and provide access to its ever expanding database. 

Techboard has just published Australian Startup Funding in Review 2023 (With March 2024 update). Some highlights:

-In 2023 Techboard captured $4.438 billion in Investment from 621 private announced investments.  2023's result was just over 50% lower than 2021's 's $8.991b and down 37% from the 2022 level of $7.047b.

Startup investment in 2024 has started quite slowly with $761m captured from 82 deals announced during the quarter. This level is closely comparable to what was seen in the March Quarter of 2020, in terms of dollar value captured but from 27% fewer deals. The quarter was the slowest quarter since the Sept Q 2020 ($401m) but larger than every quarter pre-June Q 2019. 

- Climatetech was the most funded sector with $777m in announced private investments, closely followed by Fintech with $758m, with Healthtech coming in at $574m.

- In 2023 solely women-founded ventures had their strongest year since 2020, capturing 3.88% of all private announced capital raised during the year from 12.58% of deals. March 2024 was the best quarterly result for solely women-founded ventures for the last six years at 16.36% of all capital raised but behind the result of Sep Q 2017 (25.68%).

Techboard has published its latest report "FUNDED FY23 Australian Startup Funding in Review" including a follow up to our "Funding of Women-Led Ventures Report".

The report shows that FY23 was the second strongest on record for Startup Funding in Australia, ahead of FY21, despite the massive drop in funding from FY22. 

Techboard has also been developing an approach to track startup companies' unannounced raises which is outlined in the Report.

Techboard has published its latest FUNDED Funding Update, for the September Quarter 2023. Check out the Update at https://lnkd.in/gWjScJ3V

The update reveals that during the September quarter Australian startups announced $979m from 110 announced private investments. This was a 17% drop in announced investments in value and a 36% drop in number from the June Quarter’s $1.182b from 172 deals and a return to the investment level captured in the March Quarter. This takes the total for the 2023 calendar year to date to $3.171b. 

Considered on a calendar year basis this puts the year on track to be the third best on record, behind the highs of 2021 and 2022, with the YTD result for 2023 and roughly equalling the full year result for 2020. On a Financial year basis this puts FY24 roughly on-par with FY23 at the close of the September quarter 2023.

The purpose of the awards is to celebrate the contribution Angel investors make to the startup ecosystem and overall economy and community in Australia. Angel investors not only provide their own money as capital to startups and early stage businesses, they are also generally active in their support of their investee companies, providing guidance, mentoring, introductions and more.

The categories for 2023 have been modified in recognition of shifts in the Investment Landscape in Australia. We have introduced an award for the Biggest Impact Angel Investment and an award to celebrate a Champion of Investment Diversity.
