Congratulations to Austal on the successful delivery of the 21st vessel of the Guardian-class Patrol Boat program, Te Mataili III. Te Mataili III was officially accepted by the Australian Government and gifted to the Pacific Island nation of Tuvalu at a handover ceremony held at HMAS Stirling in Western Australia this week. Pictured below is the Herbert DeVlieg Jig Boring machine which has been in use at VEEM since the 1970s and is still operational today.* VEEM was established in 1968 to carry out dynamic balancing services and drive shaft re-manufacturing. These services were steadily expanded to cover a range of repair machining services, heat-treating and the manufacture of a small metal turning lathe through to the 80s. The DeVlieg machine was used for a range of work including the machining of large and complex workpieces.
