A proposed change to the NCC could allow exit signs to be 99.8% dimmer. Photoluminescent signs glow after absorbing light but are not compliant with current Australian standards. The proposed change will allow some photoluminescent signs to bypass existing standards, relying on the new, less rigorous SA-TS-5367:2021. The three biggest impacts of the proposed changes are: 1. Minimum luminance requirement decreased by up to 99.8% 2. Removed Standard Testing and Maintenance Requirements 3. Lowers product specifications, compromising safety The current SA-TS-5367:2021 is incomplete and weakens safety standards. It must be updated to include detailed testing and maintenance requirements and maintain current safety levels.
