Congratulations to Professor Peta Stapleton who has received a national award in recognition of her research into tapping, or Emotional Freedom Techniques. Tapping has been found to be effective for psychological conditions such as anxiety, depression, phobias, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as physiological issues. Professor Stapleton is working to have EFT officially recognised as an evidence-based treatment in Australia and the US which would have implications for Medicare and patient access. With the world watching on, Bondies, Elijah Winnington and Flynn Southam made Australia proud at the Paris Olympics when they brought home two silver and two bronze medals from the pool. As recipients of Bond's Hancock Prospecting Swimming Scholarship, Elijah and Flynn both received 100% tuition remission for their chosen degrees, a cash bursary, and a unique mentoring experience through Bond Swimming Ambassadors who include Bond University Olympic and Commonwealth Games gold medallists. This Friday, Bond University is hosting the first Bond University Film and Television Awards (BUFTA) Film Festival to showcase the Top 27 nominated films. 10 of those films have been produced by talented Gold Coast students, the most finalists the city has seen in the past 10 years. As part of their Public Health Nutrition studies, our Master of Nutrition and Dietetic Practice students delved into the culinary heritage of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In the teaching kitchen, they explored native bush tucker ingredients, experimenting with herbs like lemon myrtle and native thyme, and proteins such as crocodile, emu, and kangaroo mince. They also incorporated native fruits like Davidson plum and wild raspberries into dishes, and even tried traditional macadamia nut cracking for a bush tucker-inspired pesto. The session concluded with a communal meal, deepening their appreciation for the diversity and significance of native Australian ingredients.
