This morning, the 🇦🇺 Embassy was delighted to have Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, the Hon Madeleine King join us for #IWD2024 to share insights on women in politics, and improving women’s political and economic participation, including in male-dominated industries 💪 #CountHerIn

Today on #IWD2024 Australia knows that our economic prosperity and environmental sustainability is not possible without the full realisation of women’s and girls’ human rights.

We invest in gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment by, for example, ensuring:
 
- Access to and control over productive resources and decent work;
- Control over their time, lives and bodies;
- Increased voice and agency in economic decision-making at all levels, from households to international institutions. 
 
This – gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment – is central to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
 
Earlier this week, the Embassy was delighted to host the launch event for the Australian Women in DC (AWDC) and their forum themed ‘Under the Radar – The Secret Role of Women in Intelligence’ 🕵️‍♀️

Today marks the start of ASEAN-Australia Week!
