Rita Saffioti MLA visited Kardan Construction's Matagarup Café and Zipline Facilities project this week. She had the pleasure of meeting some of Nyoongar Kardan team who have worked throughout this project and the upskilling this project has generated for them. Proud Ballardong Nyoongar man Elvis Pickett (far left) finishes his 4 yr Carpentry apprenticeship this week and Proud Whadjuk Nyoongar woman Breeanna Haynes (far right) was promoted from admin to Project Manager assistant. She also designed the artwork that was painted onto the concrete by herself and 6 other Kardan Mob for what turned out to be a great drone shot. This was a Main Roads Western Australia approved, non-permanent feature request by Kardan. We look forward to sharing more about this project and the outcomes Kardan was able to generate in future posts. Kardan apprentices and I recently had the pleasure of meeting Hon Simone McGurk MLA again and Hon Bill Johnston MLA and some of the awesome Construction Training Fund team. Proud Palawa woman Sam Adams (Painting apprentice) and proud Nyoongar Yamatji man Tyson Kelly (Tiling apprentice) both benefit from support the WA Government and CTF provides as do all apprentices across the state working in the construction industry whether indigenous or non-indigenous. With the skills shortage still one of our top ongoing challenges to mitigate, the more support to encourage people to enter into and complete an apprenticeship is certainly welcome!
