CPA researchers head to Cairns 🔬

We are excited to share that leading Australian researchers from CPA will be joining the Australasian Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine's 12th Biennial Conference up in Cairns over the next few days. 

Top global experts including CPA's Dr.Sarah McIntyre, Professor Iona Novak and more will be meeting to share ideas and breaking barriers in CP research.

This year's theme, "Respect, Respond, Re-imagine," promises innovative approaches to improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.

In just a few months, young people all across Australia will be taking high school exams  – but not everyone will have access to the supports they need to do their best. 

Students with disability are entitled to access reasonable supports to enable participation in exams. But the lived experience of many is that these supports can be applied poorly, inconsistently, or not at all.

#CPActive, the grassroots advocacy arm of CPA, is calling on NSW government to ensure clear, consistent and enforceable guidelines for support around assessments at schools for students with CP and other disabilities.

A warm thanks to the four federal and state MPs to have visited CPA in the last fortnight to announce grants and new funding.

Our East Maitland team was thrilled to host federal member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson MP, who met our therapy and influence staff and toured the site. Federal member for Bennelong, Jerome Laxale MP, also toured our Ryde therapy centre to celebrate a Stronger Communities grant.

Meanwhile, state member for Davison, Matt Cross MP, got a taste of our Lifestyles program at St Ives while announcing new funds to upgrade the site, and state member for Erina, Adam Crouch MP, visited our therapy centre on the central coast. 

Thank you to all our elected officials for taking the time to meet our families and learn about how we support the CP community.
