I want to thank Annie Tay for all her work over the last year and congratulate her on transitioning from our full-time Chief Risk Officer to our Senior Advisor for Risk. 

For us at Meanwhile, 2022 was about getting licensed, and 2023 was about starting a life insurer from scratch. That's an easy sentence to write but a hard thing to do. One of the most important functions is governance, risk, and compliance. Whether it's been helping us set up our proper board governance, thinking through our risks, or adopting corporate policies (about financial risk, strategic risk, underwriting risk...and the list goes on and on), Annie been an invaluable partner to me and the executive team. 

As I note in the attached press release, “In her previous roles, Annie developed world-renowned expertise in developing and launching risk and compliance programs at life insurers. We were lucky to have her on board as we launched a fully functioning life insurer from scratch. Whether it's developing our best-in-class anti-money laundering program or launching our internal asset-liability matching processes, we wouldn't be where we are today without her."

I wrote in Coindesk about how Meanwhile operates on the BTC standard. 

All assets and liabilities of our insurance subsidiary are matched in BTC. By operating entirely on the BTC standard, the insurance company is indifferent to the “price” of BTC relative to any fiat currency. Our insurer operates as it would if its books were kept in any other currency—dollars, Euros, Yen, Swiss Franc.

All payments in and out of the company are made in BTC. Customers pay premiums and receive claims in BTC. If customers wish to pay or receive fiat currency, an affiliate can convert premiums or claims to BTC, but the amounts due and paid out are entirely denominated in BTC.

All internal operations are conducted in BTC. Our life insurer states its audited financials, calculates its reserves and capital requirements, and makes all regulatory filings in BTC.
