#FARI2024 | The AI Sandbox Summit addressed the regulation of artificial intelligence systems in Europe. Organized by the Brussels and Swiss CAIRNE offices, with the support of FARI - AI for the Common Good Institute , this summit brought together stakeholders involved in AI-related regulatory and innovation sandboxes. AI sandboxes provide a controlled environment for testing innovative products, offering a unique opportunity for organizations to drive AI innovation responsibly, while ensuring user protection. However, the challenges of establishing and operating these sandboxes remain complex and are not yet fully understood. The summit served as a platform for sharing insights and experiences across European member states. It also produced actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening innovation environments for AI, in line with EU AI regulations. These discussions are key for shaping future innovation programs that balance progress and responsibility in AI development. #FARI2024 | Introduction to The Data Tank and Data Stewardship Bootcamp We were thrilled to host a session with Marta Poblet Balcell , Senior Research Lead, and Anna Colom, PhD , Senior Policy Lead, exploring how organizations can implement the EU's Data Strategy and Data Spaces. This session focused on The Data Tank 's collaboration with The GovLab in delivering Data Stewards Bootcamps around the world, which aim to equip data stewards with the knowledge and tools to implement responsible data reuse practices. #FARI2024 | CAIRNE and SustAIn.brussels organized a matchmaking event during the second day of the FARI Brussels Conference, bringing together SMEs, academia, R&D institutions, funding agencies, and digital innovation hubs. The event featured three insightful info sessions: 🔹 Sustainable AI: Panel with academia/RTOs explaining how to focus on Sustainable AI in EU proposals. 🔹 EU Digital Europe Program Funding: Learnings from funding agencies on opportunities and processes. 🔹 EU Research & Innovation Programs: Testimonials from SMEs sharing their experiences in EU projects. #FARI2024 | We had the pleasure of hosting an inspiring pitch session organized by the VUB Business Development Academy (BUDA), featured a series of exciting presentations: 🔹 Success story from AILOS, showcasing their journey 🔹 Pitching competition from the 2nd cohort of the FARI AI Accelerator 🔹 Pitch from the winner of the MedTech Accelerator by HubBrussels 🔹 Graduation Johan De Mol stressed the importance of inclusivity while presenting his analytics tool No-Kno , which is specifically designed to increase diversity in communication channels while helping businesses grow. This tool helps businesses to better represent their specific target audiences in business communications. In Ai-BODDIE 's pitch, they expressed that having data is not enough; it’s the ones who know how to unlock it that give the real advantage. Large corporations continue to work with data, but Ai-BODDIE 's technology can make that work safer: “They say data is the new oil. But even oil needs to be refined.” We witnessed the passion and creativity of #AI startups across various sectors like healthcare, finance, education, and transportation, all demonstrating AI's transformative potential. The FARI AI Accelerator continues to provide AI entrepreneurs with the resources and support needed to scale their ventures and shape a better future. #FARI2024 | How can data reuse shape the future of cities and regions? Reusing data is key for improving policies, meeting citizens' needs, and enhancing services. However, challenges like lacking infrastructure often hinder progress. During a workshop organized by the European Commission ’s Big Data Test Infrastructure and funded by the Digital Europe Programme (DEP), participants learned about the Big Data Test Infrastructure (BDTI), a free open-source tool designed to support data experimentation. The session brought together civil servants from regional, federal, and communal governments, as well as organizations working with public administrations.
