In 2023 Canada experienced a sweltering and protracted heat wave that resulted in over 18 million hectares of burned forest. One of the biggest challenges with tree planting is the risk that it doesn't rain for a long period after planting. Even nursery-grown seedlings planted last year faced mortality under heat stress. Our Plant Science team has been working to validate that our new seed pods help ensure germination does not occur until conditions are ideal.

Below are some pictures from a large site we planted last year in British Columbia. Seeds conserved their energy through the drought, enabling seedlings to pop up en masse this year. The grey around the seedlings is residue from our seedpods.
