FPInnovations is currently evaluating another autonomous transportation opportunity for Canada’s resource sector, testing Kratos Defense and Security Solutions leader/follower technology #truck #autonomous driving on #forest roads in Quebec. The technology consists of two class-8 trucks, the first one being manually driven by a driver and the second one highly automated, following the path of the first truck. A safety driver is always present in these early tests and is ready to take control when prompted. This new series of tests follow the completion of the Phase I tests, performed in private forest roads of Québec in Fall 2023; new results will help develop safety documentation and regulatory framework for further use of the technology and is aimed to aid in the development of autonomous transportation corridors in Canada. ***** FPInnovations évalue actuellement une autre option de transport autonome pour le secteur canadien des ressources avec la mise à l'essai de la technologie de #camions #autonomes en mode meneur/suiveur de Kratos Defense and Security Solutions sur les routes forestières du Québec. First Electric Truck Deliveries in collaboration with Tolko Industries , Nortrans Freight Management , and Peterbilt Pacific : a #Peterbilt 579 EV #electric #truck hauling #forest finished product in Southern Interior BC. This operational study is conducted by FPInnovations as part of ongoing testing and awareness efforts to support the forest sector reduce #GHG emissions. The insights, data, and feedback gathered will help determine the potential, limitations, and necessary adaptation efforts for the successful implementation of #BEVs in the forest industry. Replacing a conventional truck with a #battery electric truck in this operation could save 900 tonnes of GHG emissions annually, which is equivalent to removing 200 cars from the road. We are supporting #forestindustry and #transportation sector in creating green corridors to meet Canada's #decarbonization goal. *** Premières livraisons de camions électriques en collaboration avec Tolko Industries , Nortrans Freight Management et Peterbilt Pacific : un #camion #électrique #Peterbilt 579 EV transportant des #produits forestiers finis dans la région intérieure sud de la Colombie-Britannique. Cette étude opérationnelle est menée par FPInnovations dans le cadre des efforts continus d'essai et de sensibilisation visant à aider le secteur forestier à réduire les émissions de #GES . Les connaissances, données et rétroactions recueillies aideront à déterminer le potentiel, les limites et les efforts d'adaptation nécessaires pour une mise en œuvre réussie des #VEB dans l'industrie forestière. Le remplacement d'un camion conventionnel par un camion électrique à #batterie dans cette opération pourrait représenter une réduction annuelle de 900 tonnes d'émissions de GES, ce qui équivaut à retirer 200 voitures de la circulation. Nous soutenons l'industrie forestière et le secteur des transports dans la création de corridors verts pour atteindre l'objectif de #décarbonation du Canada.

Un événement important sur la construction en bois massif a été organisé hier par le Fonds de solidarité FTQ et le Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ. Cette journée de réflexion enrichissante, animée par mon collègue Serge Cormier , a rassemblé les acteurs de l’industrie, partenaires et collaborateurs, pour discuter de la construction en bois massif et de son rôle dans un avenir durable au Québec. 🌲🌍 Je tiens à rappeler que le Fonds s’engage à atteindre 12 milliards de dollars d’actifs de développement durable d’ici 2027, et l’immobilier durable est au cœur de cet objectif. Recently, building tall and large with mass timber has been gaining momentum worldwide due to the low carbon footprint of timber products. Floor systems can contribute nearly three-quarters of the environmental impact of a tall building. To demonstrate the potential for mass timber across a range of building types and scales, DIALOG and EllisDon developed a Hybrid Timber Floor System (HTFS), an innovative approach to existing floor systems, with greener construction options and meaningful use of local natural resources. The current proposed design prototype suggests it is possible to reduce structural embodied carbon by 46%. Now still in the testing phase, the novel Hybrid Timber Floor System has received patents in Canada and China. DIALOG, FPInnovations , and EllisDon have a written a paper for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Structural Engineering on the fire testing performance of the HTFS.
