From yesterday's keynote with Peter Letko, co-founder of Letko Brosseau at TMX Group Lithium Investor Day. Peter starkly laid out the need for more domestic investement in Canada, and argued that the big Canadian Pension funds (dubbed the 'Maple 8') should be a part of the solution. In contradistinction to Pierre Lassonde's position that the funds should be mandated to invest in Canada, Peter believes requiring the funds to establish a reserve fund for any investments outside of Canada, would make them look harder for Canadian based investment opportunities. The ripple effect of that capital staying in Canada could not only be a boon the mineral sector (and make achieving our energy transition goals more realistic) but also, the overall Canadian economy. It's one solution I alluded to in my previous post around the urgent need to get more investment dollars into Canada to fuel languishing growth numbers.
