Sustainable and inclusive economic growth and integration of SIPPO partner countries into world trade | The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is a longstanding, well-established initiative of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) with the overall vision of sustainable and inclusive economic growth and integration of SIPPO partner countries into world trade, through its mission of supporting BSOs to increase export promotion capacity and service provision to export-ready companies.

Since April 2017, SIPPO is being implemented under the direction of Swisscontact in partnership with BHP Brugger and Partners and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.

Through SIPPO’s network of international and national experts, the programme aims at supporting BSOs to increase their export promotion capacity and service provision to export-ready companies.

It was a great honour to have Swisscontact's SIPPO programme presented by our Sector Lead Sustainable Tourism Susanne Reber, at the Sustainable Tourism Days organised by the Swiss Tourism Association. The theme of this year's event was "Creating sustainable pathways". Susanne teamed up with Esther Schlumpf from the Upper Valais Regional and Economic Development Centre. They presented their systemic approaches to respond to questions and challenges and to strengthen partnerships and networks. 🌍 Susanne's key takeaway from her workshop and the event is that building strong networks and collaborations is key to creating sustainable pathways. 🌍 She emphasises the added value of mapping networks and connections beyond our own 'bubble'. This approach allows us to better recognise synergies, overlaps, gaps, opportunities and identify those who are not connected (LNOB)," says Susanne. Susanne Reber, Lead Sustainable Tourism at SIPPO, is talking tomorrow (30 October 2024) at the Sustainable Tourism Days 2024 in Berne/Switzerland [ https://lnkd.in/eT27bAfx ] on behalf of Swisscontact. She will be using the SECO-funded SIPPO programme to show how to identify the most suitable partners worldwide with the help of a network analysis in tourism. She will describe how to outline and analyse the tourism network on paper beyond the daily interaction boundaries: Who is linked to whom? What synergies, risks and opportunities emerge? Are there gaps or duplication in the fulfillment of tourism tasks? SIPPO exits Colombia by the end of 2025, and we respond to the question: How to move from Cooperation to Sustainability? After years of successful collaboration between the Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) and the Colombian Business Support Organisations (BSOs), we are preparing for the phase-out of the programme in Colombia, in December 2025. In the recent Coordination Committee (CCC), we defined the strategy that will ensure the continuity of the tools and capacities installed, leaving a legacy that will boost Colombia's internationalisation in a sustainable way. This process is based on three key pillars: 📚 Knowledge Management: ensuring that tools and learning remain accessible to all BSOs, Enterprises and Academia. 🌐 Strengthening networks: Connecting Colombian organisations to a global network of opportunities. 💡 Sustainable financing: Promote public-private partnerships that guarantee the continuity of export initiatives. In this CCC, we were privileged to have Clément Graf Global Head of the SIPPO programme; Julien Robert , Head of Cooperation of State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) Colombia, and our BSOs. We were also joined by Javier Diaz Molina , Director of ANALDEX - Asociación Nacional de Comercio Exterior who shared an overview of the Colombian foreign trade and ideas for a better use of the FTA Colombia-EFTA. SIPPO supports export promotion activities with BSOs in 12 countries. Promperú is an important partner in Peru. Personal exchanges strengthen cooperation and the impact of SIPPO's work. This is done through meetings and by presenting success stories in case studies. In addition, issues related to sustainability, governance and digitisation of upcoming projects were addressed. The Deputy Director of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs in Peru (SECO), Mauricio Chiaravalli; the Peru Director of Swisscontact, Cecilia Rivera; the Head Programme of the Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO), Clément Graf; the SIPPO Country Representative, VICTOR SARABIA MOLINA; and the Export Promotion Manager, Maria Isabel Rodriguez were present. Also present for PROMPERÚ were the General Manager Jorge Pelaez and the Head of the International Cooperation Office, José Luis Guerra.

The circular economy, as a model of production and consumption, involves the multiple recycling and reuse of existing materials and can develop into a crucial factor for sustainability. North Macedonia has the potential to be a pioneer in this field in Southeast Europe. SIPPO North Macedonia has recently supported several BSOs in promoting a better understanding of the opportunities offered by a circular economy. It supported Invest North Macedonia and the Textile Trade Association - Textile cluster in their participation in the Circular Textile Day in the Netherlands. In partnership with the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia (ECM), it assessed current waste management practices in North Macedonia's natural ingredients and food sectors and identified opportunities for circular business models. The aim: to promote sustainability. The analysis used a Value Chain Generator® (VCG-AI) tool that helps identify different residual waste streams and assess their economic viability. 👉 What are the most viable implementation options? 👉 What are the waste streams and best conversion technologies? 👉 Who are the suppliers and potential customers? The analysis identified several important waste streams in North Macedonia that can be converted into valuable secondary materials or new ingredients. Here are two examples: 🍇 Grape pomace from wineries and vineyard residues can be converted into very valuable products for the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, such as pectin or polyphenols. 🍅 Tomato production residues such as pulp, peels or waste water from the vegetable industry are the main source of lycopene, which is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food applications. Led by the ECM, discussions are now underway with private sector representatives to explore how these options can be developed into circular business models and how investment opportunities can be identified. For SIPPO, a programme of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) within the framework of its economic development cooperation, it is important to regularly update its BSOs about key regulatory requirements in Switzerland and Europe. SIPPO Colombia shows how this can be done with regard to sustainability and coffee exports from Colombia. Taking advantage of the visit to Colombia of Clément Graf , Head of Programme of the Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO), SIPPO Colombia organised together with PROCOLOMBIA this meeting with coffee exporters from the coffee sector, to discuss the new challenges brought by the European Green Pact, and in particular, the European Union Deforestation Free Regulation (EUDR). They will talk about: ✅ How Colombian coffee companies are preparing for the EUDR? ✅ What tools and systems facilitate the EUDR process in the coffee sector? ✅ What are the implications of EUDR for Colombian coffee exporters? ✅ What are the biggest sustainability challenges in the coffee sector? ✅ What are the best sustainability practices of the most advanced coffee companies in terms of sustainability?
