Cleverbean is a product that helps teachers help children learn to read. Our focus is to make a difference to the millions of children across the globe who don't get the chance to learn to read properly. 

In the coming months, Cleverbean will be accessible to all teachers globally and is not only replacing outdated & cumbersome paper-based models for tracking reading development but provides personalised reading strategies for each student, clearly guiding teachers allowing them to track their students reading progress in real-time, through benchmarked reading levels. 

Cleverbean has a mission to instil confidence not only in teachers but to also support parents as they navigate through the challenging process of teaching their children to read.

Last week, we had the pleasure of diving into the highly anticipated inquiry into literacy and numeracy in the ACT, sparking a huge sigh of relief, excitement and hope for a brighter future among educators. 

During enriching discussions with fellow educators on actionable steps, we're thrilled to see how closely the principles outlined align with the core values that inspired Cleverbean's creation:

🌟 Consistent, Evidence-Based Teaching of Literacy: Prioritising evidence-based methods ensures students receive tailored, high-quality instruction.

🌟 Prioritising Explicit Teaching: Clear learning goals and active student engagement are vital for success.

🌟 Sample Scope and Sequence Documents: Teachers will be provided with these, aiding them in planning the teaching of literacy and numeracy in primary school.

🌟 Assessment Tools Providing Real-Time Feedback: Empowering educators with real-time feedback tools leads to impactful teaching and student progress.

Kudos to the wildly ambitious independent inquiry team led by chair Barney Dalgarno who in just 6 months (4 months when you take out school holidays!) visited 53 schools, met with educators, parents and education experts, collected 96 feedback submissions and 295 survey responses.

Any educator will tell you it has been a journey in their career to discern between high-quality and busy work in literacy. There really is an art and a science to delivering highly impactful literacy!

To ensure schools and teachers have the required knowledge to meet these goals, we agree in the need for integrated, valued Literacy Instructional Specialists in every school. We also believe the expertise from these specialists can be carefully disseminated through scalable tools, ensuring continuous reinforcement, development, and extension of best practices beyond their direct involvement in schools. With the teacher shortfall crisis weaved into the mix (a daily shortfall of 42% in NSW - does this not absolutely blow your mind?) we simply won't have enough of this expertise to go around in the near future.
