Bill Gates is betting that C16 will succeed as a palm oil replacement. 

Why?

"Because fermentation is a relatively affordable, scalable, and quick process, especially compared to slash-and-burn deforestation."
 
On his most recent Gates Notes, Bill unpacks how big and important the palm oil problem is and why he thinks C16 has the right solution to solve it. 

He highlights how "C16’s oil contains the same fatty acids, which means it can be used in the same applications. And it’s as “natural” as palm oil—it's just grown on fungi instead of trees."

Exciting announcement from oneshot.earth! They’ve just launched a public commentary for their first methodology on the Open Carbon Protocol: plugging of marginal oil and gas wells in the U.S. It describes the process for quantification, monitoring, reporting, and verification of GHG emission reductions and removals from this process.

Public commentary will run until 7 March 2024 and anyone with interest in oil and gas wells, and/or the voluntary carbon market generally, is encouraged to review and share your insights.

The OCP is designed to help anyone with an idea or concept for a new methodology - project developer, academic working group, buyer, dMRV or NGO - to get feedback and develop a high-impact methodology for use in the VCM. If you’re interested in finding out more, please reach out!
