This week on "5 Questions with" is the newest member of the Eyebot team, Isaac Estey! We're so glad he's here!

🛠 What do you do at Eyebot?
As an Engineering Technician I do a variety of things at Eyebot. My main focus is the electrical and mechanical assembly of Eyebot’s prototypes. I also design and create various fixtures and devices for R&D.

💡 What problem are you most excited to solve at Eyebot?
I am most excited to help people get better access to eye care. 

🎧 It’s focus time. Headphones are on. What are you listening to?
Boards of Canada is one of my go to electronic artists. The absence of lyrics really helps me stay focused. 

🥪 What’s your favorite Boston lunch spot and what do you order?
One of my favorite lunch spots in Boston is Fish Taco, where I cannot resist ordering fish tacos. 

🏖 What’s your dream vacation destination?
I have always dreamed of going backpacking in New Zealand.

🛠  What do you do at Eyebot?

As our Senior Mechanical Engineer, I design, build, and test mechanical assemblies for R&D prototypes and production kiosks.

By day, you’ll find me, making dust and noise in the shop to prototype design improvements. By evening, I’m usually working with our various manufacturers to build consistent and reliable production units.

💡  What problem are you most excited to solve at Eyebot?

I’m excited to start R&D on integrating new technologies,  into our kiosk. Optical health and imaging is rapidly improving every year, but the challenge of putting that in a non-contact kiosk is significant. Adding new tech and improving our own tech could greatly extend the reach of optometrists.

Alternatively, we’ve discussed turning old kiosk prototypes into an office jukebox or arcade machine. Every so often, we try to have a little “hackathon” at our office to solve non-critical problems in new creative ways. Repurposing old kiosks would definitely serve the team by clearing some space, remembering history, and giving some well-deserved entertainment.

🎧  It’s focus time. Headphones are on. What are you listening to?

My typical rise and grind music is midwest emo, metalcore, pop-punk, indie rock, folk, or lofi. I prefer to listen to complete albums rather than songs, because I find it helps me keep track of time. If I’m working from home, I have a pretty decent turntable and listen to vinyl all day. Cycles of intense focus for 25 minutes followed by a quick break to flip or change records is a great way to keep in my flow state.

Lately, I’ve been listening to Harrison Gordon’s album “The Yuppies are Winning” on repeat, but I’m a huge fan of Sleep Token, The Devil Wears Prada, and the Local Natives.

🥪  What’s your favorite Boston lunch spot and what do you order?

My favorite spot near the office is Tenoch for Mexican. I’ve never met a burrito I didn’t like, but the Pescado burrito with extra hot sauce is my go-to.

🏖  What’s your dream vacation destination?

I love any vacation surrounded by wilderness where the business is quiet and nature is loud. My dream is to see the Northern Lights in their full glory, so camping in Norway and Iceland is way up at the top of my list.
