It’s a busy week for our team, with two exciting conferences tomorrow: the 2024 National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Virtual Conference and the Nevada School Counselor Association Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada! 💜

Dutton, MSW, LCSW, and Steve Gatland are joining Jacklyn Floyd, MSW, LCSW, PreK-12 Supervisor of Mental and Emotional Health at Rockwood Schools, and Alicia Smith, LMSW, Manager of Behavioral Health, Kansas City Public Schools, for the panel, Bridging the Gap: Leveraging Tech to Increase Accessible Care. They will discuss the challenges and opportunities of using technology to deliver mental health care to under-resourced communities.

🖌️ Kehinde Wiley is a contemporary artist who is most famous for being commissioned to create the official portrait of President Barrack Obama in 2017. Kehinde has significantly impacted youth through his diverse and inclusive portraits of Black individuals, highlighting beauty and power. Kehinde invests in youth by providing mentorships and art education in underserved communities, empowering youth to use their creativity to change the world.

💄 Pat McGrath, makeup artist and entrepreneur, influences youth through her work in the beauty and fashion industry. Pat has redefined beauty standards through her unique approach to makeup. She has achieved remarkable success in representing a wide range of skin tones in the makeup industry, which has historically lacked diversity. Her work highlights the beauty of every skin tone and inspires youth to pursue their creative passions!

This week, join us in celebrating the work of Marley Dias and Danielle Coke Balfour! ▶️

📚 Marley Dias, an 18-year-old activist and author, initially gained recognition for her #1000BlackGirlBooks campaign. At the age of 11, Marley was frustrated by the lack of books featuring Black girls, so she set out to collect 1,000 books featuring a Black female protagonist to donate to libraries, schools, and community centers. She surpassed her goal, and the campaign sparked important conversations about the need for more diverse characters in children’s books. At the age of 13, Marley went on to write a book of her own titled, “Marley Dias Gets It Done, and So Can You,” a guide that explores activism, social justice, volunteerism, inclusion, and using social media for good. Marley encourages youth to use their voice and take action to change the world. 

📱 Danielle Coke Balfour ☻, known best as @ohhappydani, is a talented artist, speaker, and advocate who utilizes her creative talents to address social injustices. As a graphic designer and illustrator, Danielle has been recognized for her thought-provoking artwork that often highlights themes of racial equity, justice, and empowerment. She challenges stereotypes and sparks conversations about important societal issues through her illustrations. Her work inspires positive change and understanding!

🔊 Amanda Gorman is a visionary poet and activist whose art has captivated the hearts and minds of youth worldwide. Her journey into poetry began at a young age and was fueled by a passion for storytelling. In her work, she addresses themes of resilience, justice, and hope. Beyond poetry, she empowers youth to find their voices and stand up for inclusivity. As the youngest inaugural poet at the 2021 presidential inauguration, Amanda Gorman has left a lasting mark on U.S. history and has inspired a new generation to express themselves through creativity.  

🎧 Jon Batiste, a visionary musician, has become an inspiration for aspiring artists! Through his dynamic performances and innovative approach to music, he inspires youth to explore their creativity and embrace the power of musical expression. Jon Batiste uses his platform to entertain and advocate for social and political issues, addressing topics like racial inequity and art's societal impact. He is a passionate advocate for music education, especially in underserved communities, and has become a musical icon and a powerful role model of hope and possibility for Black youth.
