Last week, our COO and former VP of R&D Oren Katz spoke at Geektime גיקטיים’s annual conference about the blockchain scalability problem. Achieving security, decentralization, and scalability simultaneously is a significant challenge, often called the "blockchain trilemma." Typically, only two of these properties can be maximized at the expense of the third. For example, Ethereum prioritizes security and decentralization over scalability.

As Ethereum's user base expands, the network experiences transaction bottlenecks, slowing down speeds and driving up gas prices. This cycle hampers widespread adoption. Simply increasing transactions per block would compromise decentralization, making it costlier to run Ethereum nodes and potentially destabilizing consensus, thus impacting security.

To tackle these issues, Starknet emerges as a Layer 2 solution offering a different approach to enhancing scalability without sacrificing security and decentralization.

STRK staking is coming to Starknet, marking a major milestone for our community! This new feature will pave the way for innovative business logic and use-cases, enhancing the utility of the STRK token and further decentralizing our network.

What makes this even more special? Starknet will be the first Layer 2 solution to introduce this mechanism, with availability on both testnet and mainnet by Q4 2024.
