Run by the International Downtown Association (IDA) Foundation and supported by American Express, this program aims to boost business for culturally significant and independent restaurants that demonstrate a positive impact on their community, and are owned by individuals from underrepresented and/or economically vulnerable groups. The goal? To help these restaurants with critical improvements and long-term sustainability so that they can focus on nourishing their customers with good food and furthering community connection. In 2024, $955,000 USD will be awarded to 67 independent restaurants with community significance in 9 major cities across the UK, Mexico, Australia, Japan and Canada. They're a multi-service agency that serves more than 10,000 people annually, impacting the lives of the most vulnerable and the most at-risk members of their community in East Downtown Toronto. They work with at-risk youth, seniors, adults with physical and health disabilities, people who need housing, individuals searching for employment, those with mental health issues, and newly immigrated individuals and their families. Anahita led the construction and opening of Vettä's F&B Operations, which includes their KOIVU restaurant, SAVU bistro, coffee bar and special events. Passionate about fostering deep connections to nature, Anahita cultivates and promotes locally grown food, and intentionally set up a local supply chain when launching Vettä's F&B Department. Anahita and her husband Paul own an organic feed farm and homestead in Hillsdale, as well as a bike shop in Orillia. With aspirations of becoming an artisan feed and seed producer, she envisions a future where resilient communities thrive on diverse, locally sourced ingredients and regionally adapted seed.
