Aero X Ventures is a specialized early-stage venture firm investing in next-generation technologies that are currently transforming Aerospace & Defense (A&D).

We are experienced investors focused on A&D sub-markets with increased technology demand, competition, and M&A to generate competitive venture investment returns.

Within Aerospace & Defense (A&D), we see a meaningful opportunity to invest into early-stage companies with product traction in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), Robotics & Autonomous Systems (RAS), & Smart Manufacturing.

Each of these A&D sub-markets are utilizing key enabling technologies, such as AI/ML, IoT, Cyber Security, Blockchain, Immersive Tech, Sustainability Tech, and many others to drive scalable solutions to difficult problems and have both a military and commercial application.

Within Defense, we see a positive trend and demand for private capital investment.  We are particular to companies innovating and driving growth of critical technologies within the Department of Defense.

We will support each portfolio company navigate market and optimize strategy, and maximize the value of our social and intellectual capital to accelerate their growth. 

AERO X VENTURES

The Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is beginning the strategic allocation of the $983M budget for fiscal year 2024, signed into law in March. 

This spending plan is the result of a rapid, rigorous planning effort with partners across the United States Department of Defense (DoD), including the Services, Combatant Commands, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the Joint Staff. 

DIU is already putting the budget in action, and we expect to release just over a dozen solicitations using our FY24 appropriations for new projects, leveraging our Commercial Solutions Opening (CSO) process.

Since 2016, DIU has executed $1.7B in prototype contract awards and $5.5B in production contract awards to tech companies backed by more than $68B in private investment.

The Marine Corps Expeditionary Energy Office (E2O), Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC), and the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) have partnered to leverage commercial solutions that can convert water into hydrogen in austere and isolated environments, allowing it to power unmanned aerial systems (#UAS), small unit equipment, balloons, and tactical vehicles. 

“Commercial technology and energy companies have led the way in creating hydrogen-powered solutions and capabilities, and the HyTEC program helps capture some of those gains to enable operational capabilities in a contested logistics environment,” said Andrew Mawdsley, DIU HyTEC Program Manager. 

DIU recently selected two vendors, Zepher Flight Labs and NovaSpark Energy, to develop prototype technologies for this project. These vendors were selected from a highly competitive field of commercial technology company applicants.
