The Deka Pumping and River Water Intake project is a significant development for Zimbabwe, both in terms of infrastructure and its relationship with India. Financed through a line of credit from the #Exim Bank of India, this project involved the construction of a 42km water pipeline from the Zambezi river to the Hwange Thermal Power Station. This pipeline ensures a reliable water supply for the power station’s boilers and cooling systems, critical for the functioning of Units 7 and 8, which were recently expanded. We are proud to execute this project.

Deka Pumping and River Water Intake project commissioned in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 

The Deka Pumping and River Water Intake system, the largest such project carried out with Govt of India 🇮🇳 assistance in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼, was commissioned on August 5, 2024. This challenging 42-km-long, 960mm diameter pipeline project was funded by India EXIM Bank under the Indian line of credit. 
Afcons-Vijeta JV congratulates ZESA/ZPC on this landmark achievement, which is now providing water to the Hwange Thermal Power Plant, Hwange Township, and various communities and settlements along the route. The JV also extends its gratitude to the project consultant, WAPCOS, for their tireless support and guidance in ensuring the project’s completion despite challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
This project exemplifies the thriving India-Zimbabwe relationship and a shared commitment to mutual development and collaboration. 
The ceremony was attended by Hon’ble Mr Puneet R Kundal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, India, His Excellency Mr Vijay K Khanduja, Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe and senior government officials from Zimbabwe like the Hon’ble Mr Edgar Moyo, Minister of Energy and Power Development, along with other senior ministry officials and senior ZESA and ZPA officials like Hon’ble Dr Sydney Z Gata, Executive Chairman, ZesaHoldings and Mr N Mataruse, Managing Director (A), ZPC etc.
