Celebrating Decades of supporting gender and youth at AFIG FUNDS ! Last week marked a significant milestone as we hosted our inaugural hybrid alumni reception in Dakar. With nearly 50 participants, including 30 alumni and our current team members, the energy of our expanding community was truly palpable. We were also honored to welcome representatives of the AFIG Fund II investor group as we took time to reflect on the profound journey we've shared over the past few years with the backdrop of the beautiful Dakar sunset. 14 years ago, we launched our Investment Assistant by program which set a solid foundation for growth and leadership. This was AFIG Funds’ first ’gender intentional’ program leading to a majority of female alumni to-date. This also paved the way for AFIG Funds to be one of the few PE teams globally today with a majority of female staff members. Witnessing how our alumni continue to thrive in diverse industries and carry forward the values they embraced at AFIG Funds fills me with immense pride. Their successes are a testament to our commitment to nurturing remarkable leaders and strengthening the African PE and investment ecosystem. The formal launch of the AFIG Funds Alumni Network (A FAN!) is another step forward in creating an effective platform where African private sector leaders (current and future) can excel and transform challenges into opportunities. Reflecting on our past staff, I am inspired by the unique contributions each of them has made in shaping us into the dynamic organization we are today. I am equally proud of how they have carried forward the values and skills from AFIG Funds to become exceptional leaders in their respective fields. Their journey so far fills me with immense pride, and I am confident that the best is yet to come. Here's to many more years of growth, leadership, and success!

Reflecting on a Journey to #CaboVerde Last week, I traveled to Cape Verde to attend a board meeting of Tecnicil Indústria – an AFIG FUNDS portfolio company and a leader in the beverage sector in Cape Verde. This marked my first in-person engagement since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, offering the opportunity to reconnect with the dedicated management team and staff under the leadership of Mr. Alfredo Carvalho. During my visit of the plant, I witnessed the remarkable evolution that has unfolded over the last four years. Under the stewardship of an exceptional management team, Tecnicil has not only scaled its operations but also expanded its markets - notably, the export of fruit juices to the USA. These products have found a special place within the Cape Verdean community in America, a testament to the quality and cultural significance of our products. This journey vividly illustrated resilience, innovation, and the boundless potential of African enterprises on the global stage.
