We are pleased to announce that Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), our Ground Handling Agent at various stations across the United States, has joined our SAF (an alternative aviation fuel) programme.

A signing ceremony was conducted at the WFS offices at JFK Airport in New York, attended by Jean-Noël Rault, Director North America for AFKLMP Cargo, and Rinzing Wangyal, VP of Cargo Business Development at WFS.

At the beginning of this week, the Dutch Brunel Solar Team departed for Cape Town on flight KL597. This dedicated student team from TU Delft will participate in the Sasol Solar Challenge, which begins on 13 September in South Africa. As we did two years ago, Air France KLM Martinair Cargo has partnered with the Dutch Brunel Solar Team to transport their solar car, the Nuna 12S, to South Africa and back to Schiphol.

Both the team and the Nuna 12S have arrived safely and in good condition in South Africa, and the team is now preparing for next month's race. We wish the Dutch Brunel Solar Team the best of luck in the challenge and hope they achieve another victory this year.

A couple of months ago, we had the privilege of transporting two endangered lions, Nikola and Vasylyna, to their new home at Lionsrock Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa. 

The lions were initially rescued from private captivity and brought to the FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary in the Netherlands, where they received the necessary care and were prepared for their journey to their new home. We had the honour of transporting them to Lionsrock Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa, in collaboration with FOUR PAWS, and are pleased to report that both lions are now thriving and in good health.

We are happy to announce the launch of our new freighter service from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) to Hong Kong (HKG) via Dubai (DWC). After nearly nine years, KLM/Martinair freighters are returning to Hong Kong, enhancing our cargo operations and offering you greater flexibility and capacity.

The inaugural flight is set for 19 September 2024, with initial thrice-weekly operations, increasing to four times a week from 27 October 2024. This service offers a substantial 110 tonnes per flight, facilitating efficient cargo movement across AMS, DWC, and HKG, with return routes available.

At Air France KLM Martinair Cargo, we are deeply committed to wildlife conservation. Consequently, we supported Tonga Terre d'Accueil's Roar Project to successfully relocate two lions, Massaï and Kyara, along with four servals, from Paris to a wildlife reserve in South Africa. The animals are now safely settled in their new home. We extend our thanks to all parties involved, including the dedicated caregivers and our team, who made this complex and vital mission possible.

We are pleased to announce the renewal of our cargo and ground handling contract with Menzies Aviation at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS). This renewal solidifies Menzies' position as our preferred service provider for all KLM/Martinair freighter operations at AMS for the next five years.

The renewal was formalised at an official signing ceremony at Menzies' Amsterdam cargo facility. Attendees included Koen Bolster, Vice President Worldwide Operations at KLM Cargo, and Paul van der Wardt, General Manager of Martinair, alongside Menzies' executives Miguel Gomez Sjunnesson, EVP Europe, and Dave Beekman, SVP Benelux.

This agreement ensures Menzies will manage approximately 600 aircraft turns and handle nearly 100,000 tonnes of cargo annually. It represents one of our largest operational commitments at the Netherlands' primary international airport and signifies the continuation of a long-standing partnership with Menzies, which includes collaborations at more than ten locations worldwide.
