THE JOURNEY SO FAR…


Over the last couple of months, I’ve dived deeper into the tech world, learning so many tech jargon and even writing about them. And honestly, I’m enjoying every minute of it. 

Prior to now, I’d feel lost whenever I came across some startup terms like Crowdfunding, Series A, B, C, Bootstrapping, etc. I’d just scroll past, without a single care in the world😅. Now, I get really excited when I see founders on LinkedIn or Twitter using those terms. It‘s like “Heyyy, I get you! We speak the same language!”😂😂😂 

It’s an amazing feeling to be able to connect with people who get it. I’m thankful to have patient and supportive bosses and friends who have been holding my hand through the learning curve.

People complicate startup fundraising.

Listen, if you’re a Startup Founder/CEO:

Avoid:

→ Having a business idea that doesn’t solve a real problem.
→ Ignoring the importance of an organized data room
→ Pitching yourself above your team/co-founder.
→ Targeting investors outside your niche.
→ Drafting a lengthy pitch-desk.

Instead:

→ Aim for a fair valuation from day one.
→ Be open to giving up equity for funding.
→ Develop a real solution to a real problem.
→ Use real numbers throughout your pitch.
→ Pitch to investors within your sector/niche.
→ Insert confidentiality clauses in your contracts.
→ Be clear on the unit economics of your offering.
→ Have a uniquely-drafted shareholders agreement in place.
→ Seek help from startup-savvy legal and accounting advisors.
→ Have a specific, operational business plan (not a 50-page doc)
→ Run a Go-To-Market (GTM) Strategy to gain customer acquisition feedback

Focus on these in your pre-seed funding stage.
