On Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Athens Aquaculture Congress, AKVA group unveiled the revolutionary AKVA MedEye (Automatic Biomass Sampling) during the 2nd Workshop titled "Innovation in Aquaculture – Advanced Technology Adaptation."
Dr. Lars Martin Sandvik, founder and GM of Submerged, part of AKVA group, presented the Fully Automated Biomass Sampling tool, specifically designed for Mediterranean species such as sea bass and sea bream. This innovative equipment employs dedicated hardware and advanced AI algorithms to optimize production and sustainability at aquaculture sites.
The system features a robust submerged stereoscopic camera that automatically measures the length and height of fish using stereo imaging, converting these dimensions into weight with high precision. This method determines the position of every pixel in the image in real 3D space, allowing the physical length of the fish to be measured in millimeters, not just pixels. The AI models are tailored for sea bream and sea bass, with the capability to expand to any species.
