⚡ It was a pleasure to introduce representatives from Transport for London to our next-generation Enviro400EV for the capital yesterday, following the presentation to operators earlier in the week.

This was a great opportunity to review the features of TfL's pioneering Bus Safety Standard incorporated into the design, and discuss further development of our next-generation zero-emission buses for London.

Four new Enviro200 are boosting local bus routes provided by Squarepeg Buses in partnership with West Yorkshire transport authority Metro in Leeds. They include new service 9 and 9c, which provides vital direct links for communities along the city’s ring road.

The purchase is the single largest investment in new vehicles that the Yorkshire operator has undertaken to date. Simon Daymond, who set up Squarepeg Buses in 2011 and continues to manage the business, explains: “The Enviro200 has proved to be a fantastic vehicle for our operation and we now have over 35 of these versatile buses in use. Most of them saw initial service with other companies but the positive experience with an Enviro200 which we bought new from Alexander Dennis in 2018 as well as the excellent AD24 spare parts service encouraged us to return for more.”

David Sellars, Sales Support Manager for Alexander Dennis, adds: “This is a huge investment for a small company that we have been supporting for many years and we are honoured by the trust Simon and his team have once again placed in us. It’s great to see the improvement these new low-emission buses will deliver for passengers in Leeds.”

⚡ Our next-generation Enviro400EV electric double decker for London has arrived with great news: we're now able to warrant its 472kWh batteries for 14 years or 1 million km under normal operating conditions in the capital, allowing it to cover two consecutive seven-year Transport for London route contracts without a need for battery replacement!

Our Group Sales & Business Development Director Ben Werth explains: “There is a design sweet spot that optimises available energy and therefore range, as well as vehicle efficiency, length, weight and passenger capacity. In addition to detailed route analysis, we have conducted extensive tests with our supply partners at the cell, module, pack and vehicle level, which have shown that 99% of London routes can be fully serviced with our 472kWh battery.

“This is backed by a fantastic 14-year battery warranty that gives TfL-contracted operators peace of mind by covering the full duration of two consecutive route contracts. This means our Enviro400EV for London meets range requirements whilst achieving highly attractive total cost of ownership.”

The next-generation Enviro400EV for London is 10.5m long, with a shorter wheelbase giving it a tight 10.1m turning radius. We've worked closely with Transport for London to ensure it meets the latest iteration of the capital’s pioneering Bus Safety Standard. It offers 62 comfortable high-backed seats and a total capacity of up to 87 passengers with 472kWh batteries, or up to 96 passengers with 354kWh batteries.

⚡ Our next-generation Enviro400EV was recently in Blackpool as part of a planned demonstration with Blackpool Transport Services Limited. The bus performed even better than our simulated route analysis predictions! First, the bus went out on day one at 5.00am, returning at 6.30pm with 44% charge remaining. Second, with our energy throughput of 1.6GWh available, this outstanding performance could provide Blackpool with more than 15 years of energy to perform their duty cycles.
 
James Clough, Commercial & Finance Director at Blackpool Transport drove the bus for its first shift and had this to say: "We were delighted with our demonstrator from Alexander Dennis. Our customers were able to experience the future of transport in Blackpool on Service 14 with an electric bus trial of the next-generation Enviro400EV. I was impressed with the improvements made to the working environment for bus drivers with the new steering wheel, configurable dashboard display and improved heating, cooling and ventilation in the cab."
