👨⚕️ How can we accurately treat melasma? Melasma is a complex pigmentary disorder caused by a combination of factors, including genetics, hormones, and UV exposure.

In the past, studies have shown that the presence of activated melanocytes in melasma lesions can be related to relapse of melasma and other side effects after treatment.  Therefore, the skin condition should be examined at a cellular level to reveal the activated melanocytes prior to treatment. 

In our current study, AMO's CRFF-OCT combined with AI successfully demonstrated the observation and quantification of activated melanocyte at the basal layer, this critical information allows dermatologists to better determine treatment strategy.  In this study, various photoaging characteristics widespread in the skin of melasma patients were also observed. These include basement membrane damage and increased number of blood vessels. 

Overall, these cellular features cannot be seen with naked eyes. AMO's CRFF-OCT allows physicians to utilize these information to guide melasma treatment, realize precision medicine, and reduce side effects!
