Leading institutional figures and industry representatives shed light on Europe's Secure Connectivity Programme #IRIS² in the two-part session on "Defining the European approach to Secure and Autonomous Connectivity from Space".

In Part 1, the conversation touched upon the technological and #StrategicAutonomy as the overarching objective of the Programme, while Part 2 delved into the practical aspects of implementing and operationalising the multi-orbital satellite constellation of IRIS² 🛜🛰️📡

The session "European Space Policy: From Achievements to Future Ambitions" focused on the medium to long-term developments of the European Space Policy from the regulatory, financial and strategic perspectives 🛰️🧑‍🚀

The high-level panel of speakers, reuniting institutional personalities and industry representatives, touched upon the main European initiatives in the space domain, the future of space launchers and the implementation of IRIS², but also the key events that will impact the European Space Policy in 2024.

Excited to have been selected for European Commission’s and European Space Agency - ESA’s Launch Ticket Initiative. Our Chief Commercial Officer Steven Rutgers participated in the ceremony hosted at the European Space Conference in Brussels this morning, in the presence of Ekaterini Kavvada and Toni Tolker-Nielsen.

Steven underlined the commitment of our team to the success of the #IOD/IOV missions, based on decades of experience of launching small satellites -including 2020's #VV16 #SSMS #Vega flight with 53 payloads on board, in partnership with ESA and EC- and the coming #MLS structure, designed to accomodate smaller payloads as piggy back passengers to larger payload missions onboard #Ariane6. 

The Launch ticket initiative will stimulate new European launch systems through open competition and access to procurement of launch services for European missions starting with In-orbit Demonstration and Validation (IOD/IOV) needs. The tendering action launched in October 2023 identified a pool of launch service providers, including Arianespace, ready to offer launch services in the period 2024 – 2026 to meet the needs of the European Commission and ESA, who will act as anchor customers.

The Flight Ticket Initiative for IOD/IOV missions will exclusively use #EU manufactured launchers co-funded through the EU Horizon Europe programme (https://lnkd.in/eYNtFBMr) and the ESA Boost programme (https://lnkd.in/eQEFpxYp).

This initiative is an important milestone for EU Space and for the launcher ecosystem, and will enhance competition. It also showcases the willingness of the European Commission and ESA to join forces ensuring autonomous and sustainable EU access to space by relying on both established and new space actors.

This week, Arianespace is participating in the 16th European Space Conference in Brussels, Belgium, to play a role in #ShapingTheFutureOfEuropeanSpaceAmbitions.

We will be present on two different panels with our CEO Stéphane Israël  talking about European Space policy (don’t miss him on Wednesday 24, between 9:30-11:00am, Gold Hall) and our CCO Steven Rutgers discussing the topic Defining the European Approach to Secure Autonomous Connectivity from Space (Tuesday 23, 3:00-4:00pm, Silver Hall).

These moments with European space leaders will be the occasion to reaffirm the support of the team Arianespace for European projects supervised by the European Commission and European Space Agency - ESA, such as the upcoming #IRIS² mission and ongoing flagship programmes #Galileo and #Copernicus.
