A recent article in The Currency citing Elkstone as keen to do more investments in MedTech start-ups caught our eye.

It’s just over a year since Elkstone closed their €100 million early-stage investment fund for start-ups. They already have skin in the MedTech game, so they understand the unique challenges associated with MedTech investing, and they understand the potential rewards for all that effort. 

What resonated with the Ascentifi watercooler Illuminati was how the Elkstone view on opportunities in the MedTech space aligns with our own. Their desire to continue investing in the space surely serves as further validation of the opportunities it presents.

The key is filtering out the few great start-ups from the muddled mediocre. This requires deep MedTech domain knowledge and lots of time. It also helps to be plugged into the ecosystem - the best deals are usually not “shopped around” - and you’ll need a large enough cheque to get a seat at the table when the round closes.

Congratulations to our portfilio company CroiValve who recently announced positive clinical outcomes from their TANDEM I trial of the CroiValve DUO heart valve system for treatment of Tricuspid Regurgitation (TR).

The results were presented at New York Valves 2024, a highly prestigious summit dedicated to reshaping innovation and fostering collaboration in the field of valvular and structural heart disease.

The DUO System is a novel transcatheter coaptation valve that works in tandem with the native tricuspid valve to restore valve function, using an anchor system which leaves the right heart and native valve apparatus untouched.

Results demonstrated significant TR reduction, as well as markedly improved functional and Quality of Life outcomes. These findings represent promising advancements in the treatment of TR with the DUO system.
