He encoded his four-letter name into a chromatic four-note melody called “the Bach motif”, and sent musicologists down a rabbit hole looking for every instance where that melody occurred. Other composers emulated Bach, devising their own primitive encryption techniques to hide "musical signatures" in their work. The trend cooled during the 20th century and re-emerged on the Internet in the late 1990s when music nerds (like me) started offering text to midi ciphers on websites. ⛓️ AudioCipher Technologies is a link in that chain, reimagined for a modern DAW. We’ve developed our own algorithm that accounts for commons scales, chord extensions and rhythmic variations. Our partner Brett demonstrates this in the video below, turning his producer handle “Simulation Beats” into an instrumental.
