On-Premise or Cloud? What is the difference? Why is it important for the Auditor? 🔹 The difference is where the data resides. ⭕-On-Premise is where data resides at Internal Company Servers (private cloud or physical servers). 🆑-Cloud is where the data is transferred and resides outside of internal systems in supplier private cloud or in cloud providers such as Azur, AWS, Google Cloud. Both have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of deployment, security and IT requirements. 🔹 The importance of this for the auditor? Audit teams across the world are facing increased restrictions/regulations on their data acquire, processing and archiving. Audit data is crucial data that needs to be protected. When using a 3rd party software have you vetted the tool and your internal requirements? Here are some questions to ask your internal teams before approaching vendors: ✳ Do the regulations of your jurisdiction allow for Cloud? ✳ Does it allow for Private Cloud? ✳ Is the location of cloud data regulated (international or only country-wide)? ✳ Do you have an IT team/infrastructure that allows for On-Premise Deployment? ✳ If you have subsidiaries in different geographies, do they have restrictions/ regulations/company policies that may differ from the HQ? ✳ How much control do you need over who has access to the audit data? ✳ Do you have breach and data recovery processes in place for internal IT teams?
