As with almost every Balmain runway, the latest menswear collection turns to the powerful spirit of music for inspiration, tapping a full century of African-American musical genius. Where sleeve garters and tailored suiting recall the impeccable elegance of Tony Jackson – the daring ragtime, blues and Tin-Pan Alley composer who created the standard uniform for pianists of the early 1900s –, references to thick chains, durags, and grills elicit images of the rap and hip-hop artists that informed a generation, Olivier Rousteing included. #BALMAINFW24

BALMAIN FALL 2024 MEN’S
From the canvas to the runway.

Building on his love for all things culture and art, Creative Director Olivier Rousteing has teamed up with Ghanian visual artist and photographer Prince Gyasi to reinterpret a selection of his work for the Fall 2024 menswear collection.
 
“Ever since our collaboration with Prince for our Fall 2022 campaign, I have been determined to include his extraordinarily vivid vision in our designs: I love that his work offers a much-needed counter-narrative to what we’ve grown to expect of photos from Africa, concentrating on the strength and dignity of his subjects, rather than circumstance.” -Olivier Rousteing

The vibrant portraits can be seen woven through the Fall runway; from enormous colorful prints and textile silhouettes to 3D imaging and unique model pairings, the runway paints a multi-layered, surprising approach to these creations, determined to match Prince Gyasi’s inventive artistry.
