What is the Angel Tax?
Angel tax, officially known as Section 56(2)(viib) in the Income Tax Act, applied to unlisted companies in India. When these companies raised capital by issuing shares to investors at a price exceeding the company's fair market value, the excess amount was treated as income and taxed at a rate above 30%.
