BioBTX is a company that specializes in the development and commercialization of sustainable chemical building blocks derived from non-food biomass. Their focus is on producing bio-based aromatics, such as bio-benzene, bio-toluene, and bio-xylene (BTX), which are essential components in the manufacturing of plastics, resins, and other materials.

BioBTX is a circular chemistry technology developer that makes it possible to replaces fossil resources for biomass & plastic waste. We use these renewable resources for the production of drop-in chemicals and aromatics to enable the production of sustainable and future proof materials. BioBTX developed a unique and commercially attractive integrated catalytic pyrolysis process that maximizes BTX yield and minimizes operational costs. Without biobased and renewable aromatics the options for sustainable materials are very limited; with these renewable aromatics however, it is possible to achieve truly green and sustianable materials for the entire society and industry. Niet één, maar twee!

Ministers Robbert Dijkgraaf (Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschappen) en Rob Jetten (Klimaat en Energie) waren gisteren beide op werkbezoek in Groningen, en brachten daarbij ook een bezoek aan BioBTX. 

Hierbij hebben we de rol van de BioBTX technologie uitgelegd en hoe deze het mogelijk maakt de chemische industrie volledig circulair en fossiel vrij te maken. 

Yesterday the Ministers Robbert Dijkgraaf and Rob Jetten visited BioBTX. During the visit we explained how the BioBTX technology contributes to a circular and fossil free chemical industry.

Construction of the Mini-Plant Finished!

At BioBTX we are constantly working on further improving and developing our technology. As part of this, Anne-Paul Mulder and Ruben Stevelink worked the last months on the design and construction of the mini-plant.

With the addition of the mini-plant to our Research and Technology Development capabilities, we are increasing our possibilities to conduct process development research on a continuous basis.

Circular Economy Incoming: 'Recycling PUR from end-of-life refrigerators '

Within the Circular Foam project, partners from the whole value chain are working together on developing a circular solution for polyurethanes, used eg. in building insulation and refrigerators.  

BioBTX is focussing within the project on developing new recycling routes that make it possible to create a circular solution for these hard to recycle waste streams.

Making PUR Foam Circular! 
 
Closing the materials cycle for rigid polyurethane foams: This is the ambitious goal of the new pan-European “CIRCULAR FOAM” project. 
 
To achieve this, BioBTX will work closely with Covestro, RWTH Aachen University, ETH Zürich and Rijksuniversiteit Groningen to design and demonstrate new chemical recycling routes for the recycling and production of PU rigid foams in a high a quality as possible and thus enable their fully circular reuse.
