The Black Angel Group is a collective of angel investors from top tech companies and start ups that invests intellectual, social and financial capital in seed to Series A startups around the world. Our collective believes in and support founders who build ethical, high-growth technology companies.

It started as an idea to diversify venture capital investing, and now, it’s a reality. Fresh out of stealth mode, the Black Angel Group (BAG for short), was formed during the pandemic.

In celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, we're beginning this series with a spotlight on our incredible portfolio company, Aster, which is an all-in-one women’s health patient management platform, focusing on improving prenatal and postnatal care. Co-founded by sisters Fifi Kara and Lailah Kara-Newton, MD, Aster stems from a deeply personal journey and a commitment to bridging gaps in healthcare access and quality.

➡ Raise awareness about the maternal health crisis and, in particular, the Black maternal health crisis. This is crucial for driving legislative action and local initiatives, and empowers each of us to advocate for ourselves, for our friends and for our family. 
➡ Provide guidance. They're seeking partners who have experience in healthcare technology, but also healthcare broadly–experts in malpractice insurance or EMR integrations with larger systems. They also would love advice from experts in areas like go-to-market, sales or other skills.

Three years ago, a group of Googlers embarked on a mission to increase Black representation in angel investing. Today, the Black Angel Group (BAG) stands as a vibrant community of over 260 Black tech operators across 50+ companies, united in our commitment to invest in and elevate founders of all backgrounds.

Our journey has been remarkable:

💰 32 investments: We've backed high-potential startups and co-invested with top firms like Gaingels, MaC Venture Capital, Gradient Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz.
📈 Growing impact: Our average check size has increased by 122% since inception, reflecting the increase in our membership and their excitement in these businesses.
🌍 Strong representation: 45% of our members are women, and we're spread across 5 continents.

We're proud of the community we've built and what we've accomplished in our journey thus far. Yet, we're just getting started. Join us as we write the next chapter of our story, together.
