So, we did some digging into meetings and their productivity: • Research suggests that reducing the frequency of meetings can actually boost productivity. • Adopting ‘no-meeting’ days can help curb unnecessary meetings. • Some people go to the extreme with no-meeting policies (like Jim Buckmaster, Craigslist.org ’s CEO). Instead of frequent, long meetings, these kind of meet-ups can be more effective: • Goal-setting sessions once every 1-3 months • Team building retreats • Workshops and training These are also the kind of meet-ups best held at a venue or hotel. Guests can bypass traditional front desk processes and do it all digitally. The digital room keys also provide an additional layer of security – you can’t lose this one either. • Smart room controls. From voice-activated assistants to automated lighting and climate control, it’s creating a more personal and comfortable experience for guests. • Virtual reality (VR) tours and immersive booking experiences allow future guests to explore the hotel’s facilities from the comfort of their homes. Did you know that one of the ways the London Underground improved its customer satisfaction was not by making its trains faster or more efficient, but by installing digital displays? These displays let people know exactly when the train will arrive. Travellers would rather have a slightly slower train service but know when to expect the next tube, than a faster service where they have no idea of arrival times. This speaks volumes about the human condition and how much we need certainty. If we manage customers’ expectations and guide them through a process, we can create a positive experience they’ll appreciate. For example – if there’s a delay in check-in because a room needs to be cleaned, letting your guests know when their room will be available (be honest), giving them something to do in the meantime (e.g., a cappuccino on the house in the lounge or a complimentary tour), and giving them regular updates, can convert a negative experience into a positive one.
