Today is, ‘Blue Monday’, supposedly the most depressing day of the year. But this year at Bupa we’re transforming this miserable day into ‘Blua Monday’, to highlight all the ways digital innovation is helping people to manage their mental health every day of the year. Blua is Digital Health by Bupa and is already supporting our customers alongside other tech solutions. 

In Spain customers can access Take Care of Your Mind via Blua. This service uses AI to analyse data on sleep and exercise collected via wearables plus a daily digital questionnaire to monitor mental health. This helps to spot issues early and provide swift mental health support. 
 
In the UK we have partnered with an online mental health platform JAAQ. – Just Ask A Question – which allows anyone to ask questions on a wide range of mental health concerns, from depression and addiction, to body confidence and much, much more – JAAQ. offers reassurance that no matter what your struggling with you’re not alone. 
 
In Australia we’ve worked to make quality online therapy easier to access by collaborating with renowned mental health treatment programs by THIS WAY UP. These courses can be completed online and accessed immediately – making it easier to get help faster.

Our people took millions of steps during Move Month in September as part of our Healthy Cities challenge. Those steps across APAC unlocked $1 million in funding for environmental projects, including:

🌳 27,000 native trees have now been planted by The Project Crimson Trust – Trees That Count across 16 urban locations including Dunedin, Christchurch, Wanaka and Nelson in New Zealand.

🌱 Our former #ecoDisruptive winner, AirSeed Technologies, has been using its drones to release 175,000 native seed pods in New South Wales to help rebuild forests and bushland damaged by flooding earlier this year.

🌿 Greening Australia have planted a dense grass and sedge ecosystem in Archerfield wetlands (Brisbane, Queensland) with 3,500 native plants.

🌲 Earthwatch Institute Australia have been working with local councils in New South Wales and Victoria, to identify the location of two Tiny Forests where planting will begin in early 2024.

⛴ Clearbot will begin its clean-up of Hong Kong Harbour in early 2024 with robot boats being utilised to clean trash, oil, and invasive weeds from waterways.

🍃 Hong Kong will also benefit from additional tree planting, with The Green Earth organising planting events in the Country Parks of Hong Kong in 2024.

Now in its third year, eco-Disruptive is Bupa’s global sustainability talent and development programme where employees, entrepreneurs and start-ups come together to tackle sustainability challenges within our business and the healthcare sector. 💙🌎
 
After months of hard work from our start-ups and Bupa teams, we’re excited to announce UniSCool as our 2023 winner! UniSCool is a Spanish start-up pioneering an innovative liquid cooling solution which reduces the energy use of electrical appliances including medical equipment. They will receive £200,000 (or local currency equivalent) to invest in scaling up their solution and will continue to work with Bupa to drive sustainability action. 🎉🙌🏽
 
We’d also like to say a big well done to all our eco-Disruptive start-ups and Bupa colleagues who took part this year showing incredible commitment and passion along the way!

There’s just days left in this year’s Movember, raising funds and awareness for men’s health, including mental health.

Matthew Archibald from Bupa’s wellbeing team said while growing a mo is a novelty, for him, it was more about starting conversations around a subject many men typically try to avoid.

“The Mo is coming along strong. I gave it a slight trim yesterday because it was a bit out of control,” Matt said.

“My aim is to help people understand more about men’s mental health and raise awareness. This is for all the dads, brothers, sons and mates in our lives.”

And, he doesn’t mind some friendly mo competition against his colleagues.

“It’s been a while since I’ve grown a Mo, but I feel like I have what it takes to grow the thickest, healthiest Mo in Bupa.”

It’s been a great few days for the APAC Bupa team sharing our initiatives, ideas and innovations about customer-led healthcare with our Global CEO Iñaki Ereño and members of our Global leadership team.
 
Iñaki joined our APAC CEO Nick Stone and our people to reflect on the year that’s been, and while there’s always more to do, it’s an important opportunity to recognise what we’ve achieved together and where we’re heading in 2024.
 
We also had the pleasure of hearing from Paralympian and Australian Paralympics co-captain Angie Ballard, as we mark the first anniversary of our partnership with Paralympics Australia as its healthcare partner.
 
Her inspiring story has already left a lasting impact on our people and we can’t wait to see her and the team go for Gold in Paris!
