For the last four years, Laurent leaded SBM Offshore Renewables business line, that developed a portfolio of floating wind projects, both as codeveloper and as EPCI contractor, in Europe, US and Asia, among which the first French pilot floating wind farm Provence Grand Large, which is now operational in the Mediterranean.

🔬Co-financed by ADEME, the Velella Project is dedicated to qualifying several technological advancements and innovative methodologies crucial for the successful deployment of commercial floating wind projects. The objective is clear: to ensure these projects operate under the best economic, social, and environmental conditions.

🌬️Bringing together a consortium of industrial and academic partners, the Velella R&D project represents a collaborative effort to drive meaningful change in the offshore wind sector.

⚓Velella focuses on the optimization of the economic and environmental performance of the BW Ideol floater, particularly within the framework of tomorrow’s largest wind turbines (20MW). Additionally, the project will feature the on-site deployment of mooring lines made up of innovative materials, and the implementation of new underwater surveillance and inspection methods to further reduce costs during operation.

🇫🇷 ⚓We are glad to see French ports, as significant as Grand Port Maritime de Marseille - Port de Marseille Fos, or Brest, investing in offshore wind energy.

The French and European offshore wind industry need production spaces like the one planned in the Deos project in Marseille-Fos. This development will significantly increase the use of local content for French offshore projects, especially for concrete floaters.

BW Ideol supports this vision and is fully aligned with this approach as we are already working closely with the Marseille-Fos port on the Fos3F project (cofinanced by ADEME).

Offshore wind energy provides a new decarbonized economic opportunity for French ports, which have fully understood its potential and are adapting to support the growth of the sector.

[FWS Operation&Maintenance conference]

🎤Yesterday, our Head of Tender Department, Pierre Lagarde, shared key insights and data regarding safety procedures tailored to floating technology and accessibility for personnel transfer on the platform during the FWS Operation & Maintenance conference.

🦺Owning full-scale assets in operation is critical for testing and enhancing safety procedures, thereby prioritizing safety in the design process. In 2022, we conducted an evacuation exercise with CROSS Etel, the Civil Security, the SNSM, and Centrale Nantes under real conditions.

🐬🐦 The French Syndicat des énergies renouvelables (SER), in partnership with France Renouvelables and France Énergies Marines, published 13 summary sheets dedicated to the impact of offshore wind turbines on the environment. 

🎯 The objective is to provide a general overview of the various pressures exerted by offshore wind installations on the environment. But also to describe the main causes, associated potential effects, the main species concerned, as well as concrete examples of avoidance, reduction, and compensation measures implemented.

✅We are honored to be cited as examples of operational projects with #Floatgen, addressing two major concerns : water temperature and marine pollution. Studies conducted on our floating offshore wind turbine have notably confirmed that there is no significant difference in temperature. Similarly, monitoring has confirmed that there is no contamination of the site following the installation of the wind turbine and its corrosion protection systems.
