C12 is building reliable quantum computers.

The company is a spin-off from ENS launched in January 2020 by twin brothers Matthieu and Pierre Desjardins to supercharge the development of the lab’s promising new quantum technology.

Quantum computing has the potential to change our lives. But frequent errors limit the technology’s viability. We are tackling the fundamental issue: the nature of the hardware itself. We are tapping into the simplest material–carbon–to drive a technological breakthrough in the field. Unlike other quantum computers, we use carbon nanotubes as the fundamental building block of our processor. By combining the power of an ultra-pure material with an easy-to-manufacture semiconductor device, we are building a scalable platform for quantum computing.

Our executive co-founders bring a unique combination of scientific excellence and business skills to the company. Our team is made up of the world’s most accomplished experts in quantum electronics and carbon nanotube science. Our scientific advisors are renowned scientists and pioneers in spin qubits: Dr. Takis Kontos, Dr. Matthieu Delbecq and Dr. Jérémie Viennot.

In June 2021, C12 secured a $10 million seed round with funding from 360 Capital, Bpifrance (Digital Venture Fund), Airbus Ventures, BNP Paribas Développement, and Octave Klaba (OVHcloud), and additional grants from Bpifrance and the Ile-de-France Region.

We are leading quantum’s next material breakthrough, and we are just getting started. Silicon enabled the emergence of classical computing – it’s time for carbon to do the same for quantum !

Behind the Scenes: C12 Photoshoot!

We recently captured C12’s energy, creativity, and collaborative spirit through the camera lens!

The photoshoot went beyond individual portraits. We aimed to capture the collaborative energy and innovative spirit that defines C12. The photographer documented both brainstorming sessions in our high-tech new labs and moments of focused concentration at workstations, showcasing the drive that pushes our boundaries every day. We also ventured out of our Quantum Fab, utilising C12's modern workspaces as backdrops for group photos and solo portraits. These images highlight the perfect blend of teamwork and individual expertise that's vital for success in quantum computing.

Today, Friday, May 31st, C12 successfully concluded its third class within EPITA's Quantum program, led by Axel Ferrazzini. 

This session, delivered by C12's very own Evan Tanner, further solidified the valuable partnership between C12 and EPITA in nurturing the future leaders of quantum computing.

The class delved into C12's revolutionary approach to building reliable quantum computers, focusing on key areas:

-Gathering of France's Top AI Talents at the Élysée Palace: C12 was honored to be among the leading French innovative talents invited by President Emmanuel Macron to this esteemed event. This gathering underscored the importance of fostering groundbreaking technologies, and we were proud to be part of this important conversation.

-Viva Technology's #QuantumVillage: C12 buzzed with activity at Viva Technology, Europe's largest tech event. As a participant in the #QuantumVillage, the premier destination for all things quantum, we connected with experts, gained fresh perspectives, and networked with industry leaders. We were particularly marked by the visit of the Ministre Sylvie Retailleau and Bruno Bonnell of the SGPI, as well as interactions with Valérie Pécresse and Alexandra Dublanche from the region IDF .
