What happens to cancer center volumes when many more breast cancer patients are suddenly eligible for services that are already in high demand? A much larger pool of patients now requires access to genetics given the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)'s and the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO)'s recently expanded BRCA1/2 mutation testing recommendations for all breast cancer patients under 65 years old and select patients over age 65.

The American Cancer Society report lays bare the dire need to broadly screen for cancer predisposition due to genetic, familial, lifestyle and adherence risk, test appropriate patients for genetic mutations at scale, and dramatically increase the number of patients under personalized management. The time is now.
