This past week for Truth and Reconciliation, many of Canem’s branches across the country joined Bird in participating in the third annual Walk for Reconciliation, to reflect on the intergenerational impacts of the Residential School system in Canada. At Canem, we’re committed to our role in reconciliation and constantly strive to positively contribute to the well-being of Indigenous Peoples and groups with whom we work and interact with across Canada. On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we reflect, listen, and learn about the history and impact of residential schools.

Our Special Projects division in Edmonton is thrilled to come together with AltaSteel and break ground on their shipping capacity expansion project! This project is a 4,385 m² addition to their existing bar mill and will support two new 15-ton cranes, a catwalk, and a stair tower. Key aspects of the project: 🔸 Installation of 105 concrete piles 🔸 Construction of a 400mm slab on grade foundation with an embedded spur line 🔸 Erection of a steel structure for new cranes 🔸 Comprehensive electrical work 🔸 Addition of a staircase, catwalk, extra lighting, and welding receptacles Additionally, the project requires creating a 90’ clear span opening in the existing structure to accommodate a material transfer table, necessitating temporary shoring for structural support during construction, the removal of four columns, and the installation of a 90’ super truss. In keeping with our 'One Bird' approach, this project will also utilize the comprehensive suite of services and talents from Canem Systems Ltd. After 9 years, Canem is incredibly proud of the work we’ve done on the state-of-the-art Rogers Place arena in Edmonton, making it a truly electric atmosphere during every Oilers game and other events! All of the systems and integrations in the building we provided were built under the highest measure and quality that Canem prides itself on. Rogers Place is a shining example of collaboration and success.
