Heart disease continues to be a leading cause of death in the U.S., claiming the lives of nearly 700,000 Americans each year.

Although many cardiovascular treatments have improved and become less invasive, there are still procedures that need improvements. Innovation in this space continues to unfold, promising even better outcomes, faster recovery, and less invasive procedures.

In this LSI USA ‘24 panel, we heard from innovators who are building in this space, and the strategics and investors who have dedicated decades to advancing this field. Together they share recent advances, emerging trends, and the investment landscape fueling these innovations.

Day One in the books for #SRS2024. 

Outstanding day. 

Steve Bell opened up and shared his thoughts and insights that was based on evidence and trends as to where the surgical robotic market in heading.

Dave Rosa from Intuitive as usual was insightful, candid and transparent. As transparent as a publicly traded company can be. Refreshing, given some of the other circle-talking that occurs from other public companies that are here.

The investor panel is always enlightening. As well as revealing as to what are the investors NOT talking about. 

I was surprised that no time was given to the rapidly changing centers of care and how that will greatly influence the entire market from form factors, pricing, investments, sales forces, etc.

The debate around the details of the path over the period of the next 2-5 years would be fair.

- Do 30%? 50%? 75% of procedures convert to robotics?
- What verticals will emerge and adopt at a greater rate than others?
- What companies will lead in each category?
- Where will the procedures take place?
- What does the pricing model look like?
- Are the systems straight up purchased? Price per Procedure? Surgery as a Service?

Debate away

But stepping out over the next 15-20 years, those debate points become irrelevant and moot.

Surgical robotics will be the rule and not the exception.
The definition of "surgical robotics" will also evolve.

A finer stratification of robots, patient selection, sites of care will create great companies and careers.

Companies that are not even born yet will likely dominate a good number percentage of surgical robotic verticals.
