It was the other day when one of our prospective customers booked a demo meeting with us. Right after the call started, the prospective customer said that they already knew everything they needed to know and just wanted to proceed with the API connection. I was caught off guard. Still, I decided to push my luck a bit. We ended up in a debate, and, funny as it might be, the prospective customer was arguing for starting with Cargoson and a full integration right away, while I was opposing him. I lost the debate. We have a new customer. Nice. I had heard things like this might happen, but it had never happened to me.

Implementing a new carrier API might sound like fun if you're an IT geek who prefers communicating with computers rather than real people. 🤓 But, in a more realistic world, you would typically use an ERP or a WMS where you might not even have the proper access to implement a new API connection. Some time ago I set myself to a quest to find out if there was a unified transport API/EDI standard which is in use by several logistics companies. Surely in this day and age, something like that must exist, right? A universal shipping API format? 🤔 Well, long story short, it does not exist. 🙉 There are some experimental projects, but if you are looking for a single API standard which is in use by several logistics providers - you are out of luck. The closest you can get is an API provider who has built lots of carrier API connections and then offers its own API endpoint to access different transport service providers.
