We recognise the growing importance of sustainability and our role in making our planet #GreenerTogether . We recently launched the “1 Tonne, 1 Tree” initiative, through which we plant one tree in South East Asia for every tonne of cargo booked from 25-31 July. This initiative has brought us to Carcar City, Cebu, where we focus our effort on restoring its nearby mangrove forests to enhance climate resilience while supporting local communities along the way. Yesterday, our Director Cargo Tom Owen kicked off the planting of 5,000 seedlings, including 2,342 seedlings that represent Cathay Cargo’s contribution. We’re proud to have our management, employees and partners from the Philippines and the region join our cause as volunteers. Cathay Cargo carried 133,079 tonnes of cargo in September 2024, an increase of 10.9% compared with September 2023. Cargo demand strengthened in September as we moved into the traditional peak season, with tonnage 7% higher than August and 11% above September last year. In terms of cargo carried, we observed an uptick in our Cathay Fresh shipments from South West Pacific, Southeast Asia and North America into Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, driven by increased demand during the Mid-Autumn Festival. There was also an increase in shipments through our Cathay Priority solution due to growing demand for time-sensitive shipments to the Americas and Europe. From the Greater Bay Area, e-commerce shipments continued to be the key driver of our export tonnage. We expect demand to be robust during the traditional peak season, driven by e-commerce, high-tech and electronic goods from the Chinese Mainland, Southeast Asia and India, as well as perishables from South West Pacific and the Americas. Exciting News: Increased Cargo Capacity for Riyadh! We are thrilled for our Group’s upcoming launch of the passenger flight route between Hong Kong and Riyadh! Starting from 28 October this year, our state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 aircraft will operate on this route with three return flights scheduled each week. Alongside more adventures and business opportunities, the additional cargo capacity will complement our current weekly freighter flight, allowing for more direct air freight options between Hong Kong and the Middle East region.
